Bikini Cake

My girlfriend and I made this cake for my Dads birthday. He of course loved it! It is a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. We used cinnamon rolls for her boobies. The bikini outline was drawn on with a can of  frosting and filled in with a knife. We had a little red frosting can as well so we added polka dots for some style! And topped this lovely lady off with a belly button ring (wine glass marker). Happy Birthday Dad.

DIY flip doll book

I was inspired by a post I saw from prudentbaby.com. I was going to a birthday party for a 4 year old and wanted to do something special. I haven't sewn since I was in Jr high so this was a total challenge. I had to go out and buy sewing pins. But I was able to find everything else I needed around the house to pull it off.

I used old clothes that I dug out of my closet. And raided drawers for the buttons that were used for the baby nose.

For the Father body I bought a brand new diaper changer pad at a yard sale for 50 cents. I used fabric for the hair and mustache.

I had an old red velvet tank top that I used for the Queen. The eyes and mouth were painted on with fabric paint.

This was an old pair of pajama bottoms. I used a hair clip for the flower and the rhinestone belt is from the diaper bag flea market score.

I used a dog in place of a drummer boy because I wanted to customize it to my girlfriends family. They have two girls and a dog. Therefore drummer Dog ;0)

This was so much fun to make I'm already starting on a few more. If they turn out okay I will post pictures.

Learning how to make and can applesauce

This year our apple tree in the front yard has produced copious amounts of apples! Last year we probably managed to get 2 or 3 by the time the deer, turkey and squirrels were done having more than their fair share.

Now that I have easily a hundred or more apples. I'm not quite sure what to do with them all. One of my friends suggested applesauce and it looks easy enough. Applesauce Recipe So I gave it a go. And what do you know it turned out pretty darn good if you ask me. I did substitute brown sugar for honey. Also, I think next time I will do a little less vinegar.

I looked into the canning process. It looks like I need to invest in a lot of crap. I really want to keep it simple, fun and most of all cheap. I am going with the bare min. which looks like I will need a water bath canner with the rack and some tongs so i don't burn the crud out of my hands. I'm thinking I can handle this.

My hope is to make the applesauce, can it and possibly have some great gifts to give to friends and family from our yard. I will keep you posted.
